Jul 16, 2019 Paste Studios New York, New York

U.K. spoken-word artist, rapper, poet, novelist and playwright Kate Tempest came into Paste's New York City studio to perform songs from her third studio album The Book of Traps and Lessons, out now via American Recordings/Republic Records. Her two previous albums—2014's Everybody Down and 2016's Let Them Eat Chaos—were both nominated for the highly coveted Mercury Prize. In this session, Tempest performed three songs: "Three Sided Coin," "Firesmoke" and "People's Faces." Her vocal delivery is sometimes fiery, sometimes matter-of-fact, but always intentional and with the goal of illustrating the corresponding emotion her gritty poetry dredges up.

Sports Team

Jun 20, 2019 Paste Studios New York, New York

West London's Sports Team are one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from the other side of the Atlantic recently. Paste featured them earlier this year on our list of 15 New British Acts You Need to Know in 2019. They're the kind of witty, ramshackle British indie group that's been tragically absent from the recent influx of new bands. Sports Team make funny and charismatic indie rock, eschewing morbid social commentary and harsh self put-downs in favor of jolly camaraderie and light-hearted spontaneity. They made their first U.S. live appearance earlier this year at Austin's South By Southwest, which Paste highlighted as a standout set.
